COLD OPEN
"The body is not a container for the mind. The body is how the mind coordinates with the world. Strip the body and you don't get pure intelligence — you get half a system looking for its third body."
OVERVIEW

Literary theorist who reframed the posthuman not as the replacement of the human but as the recognition that cognition always exceeds the skull. Her media-specific analysis insists that the medium is a coordination layer, not a neutral channel — and that AI must be understood as an embodied, embedded system.

WHY THIS VOICE MATTERS TO KNOWWARE
Hayles names the coordination layer that traditional AI ignores: the body, the medium, the material substrate. Her work shows that intelligence is always three-body — mind, body, world — and that any theory of AI which discards the material coordination context will produce systems that are powerful but ungrounded.
